My beautiful niece Gracie was recently diagnosed with Neuroblastoma (cancer). It is still early in the diagnosis and we are awaiting results to know more about the fight that Gracie will face. I've created this blog as an outlet for friends and family to stay informed about her journey and a way for friends and family to make anonymous contributions towards her care and the mounting expenses her family will face. Gracie is a fighter and the bravest 3 year old I know. Hundreds of people love you Gracie and are praying for you. "Be strong and of good courage for the Lord thy God is with thee" Joshua 1:9

Rough week

Gracie hasn't stopped vomitting since starting chemo. She has tried 5 or 6 different anti-nausea medications without luck. She is losing weight and is down to 27.5 lbs because she is getting dehydrated. they started her on TPN which is nutrition through the IV, on Thursday. Today the doctor said he was going to start her on DDAVP for diabetes insipidus. this is not anything related to diabetes, so dont get confused. google it :) or go to http://www.diabetesinsipidus.org/ it just means she drinks and pees a lot so with her vomitting everything she drinks, she is getting dehydrated cause she is still peeing a ton. I am not very good at explaining it even though i have diabetes insipidus also from my car wreck 14 years ago. I have been on the DDAVP 14 years. anyway, he is going to try a couple new nausea meds and hopefully they will be successful and she can start gaining her weight back and getting an appetite. We continue to have faith anfd hope that things will turn around for her soon. thank you so much for your prayers. We have wonderful friends and family. We are amazed at the love and support we have also recieved from total strangers who've heard Gracie's story. The world truly has good people. There is so much focus on the evil of the world, but I know the world truly holds more good than bad. :) Much love, Lisa

  1. I am a friend of Keri's. My name is Allison and my son also has cancer - brain cancer, he's 11. I just wanted you to know our family has been praying for Gracie. I'm so sorry Gracie and your family are going through this, but it does certainly show you the amazing good in this world. Kindness has come to our family in ways that are truly hard to even describe.
I wanted to let you know that Matt also has DI. I know you are in a better position than most to understand it since you've lived with it for longer than us! However, if you ever want to hear about how we manage it in our child, please email me! goodworth1@aol.com. Also, our friends whose young son had terrible problems with weight loss and nausea during chemotherapy eventually tried something called Megase (I think that's what it was called!) Anyhow, this mom swore that it changed their life! Their son was able to eat and started to gain weight and she felt like increasing his strength helped him to fight his cancer. I just thought I would mention it! Matt didn't have a ton of problems with nausea. He was on Anzemet through his Broviac - he just vomited up the pills. Once we found the medicine that worked, we could stay on top of the nausea/vomiting and it became much less of a problem. I'll pray that Gracie can not be quite so sick during her chemo! It's so terrible to watch them suffer so much. I'm so sorry!

  2. Your family is filled with tough cookies! I hope that they can find somehing soon for Gracie. Will this postpone her next chemo? Or is it still scheduled for a few weeks from now??

  3. they just say an average of 3-4 weeks between treatments. it all depends on her counts/bloodwork.
